Bar Harbor

The capstone of the east coast northern push was Bar Harbor. We stayed at the KOA which had some beach access to the harbor.

The fog that rolled in was eerie, but cool. The next day was totally clear and we got to do a lot of beach combing.

There are actually a bunch of interesting places to go on this island. Two or three mountains where you an walk up and get a 360-degree view. Multiple harbors with ferries and cruises around the waterways and other islands.

We opted to check out the touristy stuff down by the main town and get our souvenir shopping on. Walking down the strip towards the harbor, you run into this park.

After that, we took on Thunder Hole. There’s a place on the island where the surf and tide have worn away a cavity in the rocky shore. The water courses in and hits the back wall, surging back out on the top of the chamber. It’s like a natural bass cannon. (bass in both ways. It makes a boom, and if there were fish in the water, they probably get fired out of the hole.)

About a mile up the road is Otter Cliffs. This is a beautiful overlook which too me seems poorly named. I saw no otters. It SHOULD be named Husband Heart Attack Cliff, because that’s what Jenny nearly gave me.
