Day 1 of the trip was a drive to Shreveport. A smooth drive, great time and no mishaps.

My family lives here in Shreveport. It is in Louisiana, but that doesn’t make us Cajun. Here is a map showing some general “zones”.

I would actually change “Sportsman’s Paradise” to “Redneck country”. That’s right, everyone… I’m a redneck, not a Cajun. I’ve hunted ducks and fished. I know that squirrels are both cute and delicious. No… I have never ‘noodled’. That’s a south Louisiana thing, I think.

Keep in mind, there are exceptions. There aren’t fences in those lines to keep the different brands of crazy away from each other. There is a fair bit of cross-contamination. For me, it’s mostly just recipies. Overall, though, being from Louisiana means that everyone thinks you might have a little of that “charming insanity.” It’s kinda like how everyone thinks Texans are cowboys, even Texans.

The thing I miss most about being away from the state is the trees. Our trees in the Austin area are so tiny compared to these pines.
